Luggage - Nelson Rigg saddle & tail bag combo
I thought I'd throw up a pic of the Nelson Rigg Saddle & Tail bags I just picked up. They fit to the Z without too much hassle. I'll need to trim back the foam padding to make the bags more aesthetically pleasing. The rear straps are tricky to anchor as something rearward of the bag is needed as an anchor point to keep the bags from slipping forward. I'll end up with a metal plate with anchor points attached behind my license plate for this purpose. For now, I attached the two straps together and looped them behind my license plate and infront of the mud flap/fender assembly. Once fitted, it should only take a minute or so to get the bags on/off.
Also, these are the standard saddle bags (CL-1000) and have 3 inches of space between bottom of bag and stock exhaust (03-06). Total cost of setup was just under $200 with shipping. Seems like a well stitched set of bags... I'm satisfied with the purchase.

looks good, and with all the road trips planned this year I might just look into them myself, thanx for the pics, I was wondering how the Z would look with bags.

Those look alot like my cortech setup! I took a 4000 mile trip last summer in 11 days...bags do great on the Z. I took the rear passenger pegs off and used the pin that goes through them to strap the saddle bags on, so I knew there was no way they were comin off! The only complaint I have is that one of the rain covers ripped from all the wind, but then again...it is a Z! Have fun!
![]() ![]() Oh I forgot, everything is Cortech except the tail bag.

looks good guys I am planning another 4 day camping trip on the bike. I bought some nelson riggs silver streaks and had to put a separator stick under the tail between the two bags to keep them from rubbing on my plastic. I am going to make a new rear seat plate with a mine rack on it. I will remove the rear seat and put this on. Will show you guys when I get it built. (We need a thread of highlighs pics from out long distance trips)

BMZ, I look forward to seeing a picture of your project rear seat. Something along the lines of what you mentioned has crossed my mind. I worry about highway speeds and wind/bumps. Last year traveling through the Mississippi delta I nearly lost a tailbag due to a frost heave looking hump in the road (the bag being overly stuffed and a bungee cord mount didn't help).
Jason, I like the rubber ducky navigator. I'm jealous of your green grass and wild flower garden in the yard. Here in San Antonio I grow brown grass and jagged rocks.

For you guys with saddle bags
Could a passenger still sit on the back or do the bags take all the passenger leg room? It looks adjustable enough from the pics. Just a thought for when my girl and I take day trips. I may have to get a tankbag first.

I think he's talking about just getting the saddlebags and not the tail bag. In which case the back of her legs would probably be resting on the saddlebags, but if you adjusted them right it probably wouldn't be too bad.
A big magnetic tank bag is the best thing to have though, sticks on and pulls right off, never had a hint of falling off even after 4000 miles of 90mph ![]()

I probably wouldn't recommend a passenger with these saddle bags. They sit too far forward for comfortable access to the foot pegs. Also, there are two wide straps that run across the rear seat... probably not comfortable to sit on. It may be possible to run the straps under the seat, but it would require some modifications.
