Signal for police ahead??
.......just wondering if left hand slapping the top of the helmet was a universal warning, or just regional. |

Around my parts I've seen the turning of the index finger and flashing the headlight like the cages do. I try to warn fellow riders as well as the cagers. Flashing the headlight around here is even used for "caustion" ahead.

![]() Pat on the top of the helmet is usual around these areas. I've also seen an open hand, palm towards the ground, waving down to signal to lower the speed.

Anything that works....
........love my orange blaze, but so do the cops. Like waving a red flag in front of a bull. You Plasma Blue, Titanium & Black bike guys are a bit more stealthy. Hell, it's not like any of our bikes are making a huge radar signature....

I usually do the pat of the helmet. I'm never sure if the other bikes knew what I meant, but I did it anyway. Some would wave back.

I had never seen the pat on the helmet until I went to deals gap a few years ago. That's the only place I've ever seen anybody use it. Usually, out here in the country, we throw our palm down towards the pavement to signal them to slow down.
