slip-ons vs full exhaust

ok guys, ive been asking around the question of should i go out and buy a full system for my 01 z1000. they tell me why would u wanna go and do that if the bike is ment to run on 2 cans. they all tell me u only go to single if your ganna be racing the bike all the time. they all tell me your bike looks fu**ing awsome, why would u wanna go to a single can? let me know what u all think. Thanks

full system = more hp and better looks.
slip ons = almost the same amount of money for full system and no noticeable performance gains other than sound.

no brainer go with the full exhaust if your buying them brand new.

It's a matter of taste...

...just do what you want. Personally I like to have the feeling symetry on the bike so I went with slip-ons. That and I prefer to spend the difference between slip-ons and a full system on some CF parts instead.

If you go with a full system just remember that you're going to have to get a PCIII and get it dyno'd to make sure that you get the most out of the exhaust. The main reason for going with a full exhaust system is because of performance specifically, so expect a decrease in performance if you don't get a PCIII to go with the full exhaust. Hell, if I were to run my bike without the baffles, I would've needed a PCIII because of the lack of backflow. If you're going strictly based on looks, just be prepared to spend for more than just the exhaust.

...yep me too, got all the sound and looks I could hope for, unless a full system is going to actually make the bike fast enought to run down a SS liter bike, which it isn't, I guess I'll stick to slips.

As I understand it, about 3-5 max horespower is the real difference in the two. Lighter weight with the full-system would certainly make it desirable if your totally bent on being as racey as possible.

I think it's personal preference too. I like the looks and sound with the TB shorty slip ons so much, I set aside my project to put on a ZX9R header for now...it's sittin' in a box in my parts room. I'll eventually try the 4-2-1 set up, just out of curiosity and to shed a few extra lbs off the bike.

I have an 03 Z1000 with a Muzzy header 4 into 1 with a D&D can and it is super loud it has a higher note than slip ons gave it, I love it with the 4 into 1, the higher it revs, it screams louder than anything around even a harley with open exhaust can't top the sound when it's screaming through the gears. The sound is amazing and I didn't do any power commander and it runs fine it actually has more power, when I open it up it pulls the tire up a lot easier than it did with slip ons.

2 pipes are better than 1!

IMO 2 pipes 'look' badass, 1 pipe is a little mundane

most road riders wouldn't really get round to extracting the full potention of higer rev range power from a full system anyways... so saying a full system will give you more horsepower is only a semi true statement.

Depends how hard you ride and how many points you have left on your licence really

i bought the TB Carbon slipons with full intentions of cutting them down later. but mine are a lot shorter than what they look like in the pics in their catalog. mine only come to the back of the sprocket. i will admit that yours look a lot better than a full size can but mine are short enough im happy with em. plus i really dont wanna cut into a set of $800 pipes.
PS their loud enough iv discovered the joys of earplugs.

I'll be going with slip on's when the time comes. A single can looking better is only a personal opinion. I think the bike looks better with one on each side. A full system may give better power and save weight, but I have no use for either on of those gains. Once again, its YOUR bike, you do what YOU want!

I really can't stand the look of the silver/chrome slip-on pipe juxtaposed against the golden-toned stock headers of the Z. It just doesn't match and looks goofy. I like being able to see the full circumfence of the rear wheel and hugger from one side and cleaning the rear wheel is also made easier without the extra pipes on the chain side.

Just another opinion...

I def prefer the look of dual cans... I had dual carbon Muzzy's on my 1st Z. Loved it.

But I know have a Muzzy 4-1 with dyno tuned PCIII. And this bike is noticeably more responsive across the entire rev range. Def not a wasted investment...

But I agree, the bike makes enough power as is stock.

Those are good points as well. Although then you have that empty hole in your left side rearset with a full kit (at least on the 03-06).
