How to change 12vdc to 3vdc?

How to change 12vdc to 3vdc? Or is there a 3vdc on the bike some place. I have some LEDs that are battery power and would like to run them from the bikes power. Any help would be great.

I have no idea what's in the first link but it's motorcycle related. You'll need to sign up for the forum. The other converters probably aren't weather proof, but they might have something that is. The resister could be made water proof.

I think what you want to do is complicating things. You probably can find something that will convert the voltage. I think they make converters for GPS units. It's probably possible to convert the output wire to your needs. I don't know how gps unit converter system might work, or if it can handle the amp load. The simplest system would probably be a circuit with a resister/s that converts the 9 volts you don't need into heat. This is another problem/weakness. Your best bet is to find 12 volt LEDs similar to what you have. cost comparison is probably not much difference. Simplicity a big +

I'm curious..... are these special LEDs? Are they individual? If they are you might have the option of wiring four at a time in series. doing that would give you 3v going to each LED.

You want to hard wire instead of using batteries? Why not use rechargeable batteries. Keep them in your side cover and just change as needed.

Your thread got me thinking about LED technology. Wait until you see what is on the near horizon. Probably not cheap at first, but this stuff will be affordable in time. Picture a paint job that you can change the color, or change the graphics. How about your paint job pulsing to the rpm of the engine or get brighter when you roll the thottle. What about a jacket that would be a bright color when cruising but become normal when you left your bike. That stuff is real already. It's just not in the market place yet. If you saw the movie predator you remember that the hunter was invisable until he moved. He really wasn't invisible at all. He just took on the surrounding colors. It was special effects in the movie. But that stuff is real now.

Sorry to go all Geek on you, but I'm fascinated by it all!
