Custom Swingarm Extension....
Ok so Ive been thinken and I want to extend me swingarm for the drags. Now Ive been lookin and it looks like I can get a 6-9 extension for 250 - 350. Now I threw a new idea around my head the last few days. Whether it is the safest and the wisest is what I want to figure out. Really whether it is cheaper or time wise cheaper Im really not to worried about that money wise it will be cheaper unless I screw it up but time wise it will take longer but it will be totally custom. Im thinken about getting some aluminum inserts and cutting my swingarm at a certain point evenly on both sides and then drilling four holes in my swingarm and slip the aluminum insert with predrilled precisioned holes into the swingarm and sliding it back together at whatever predetermined holes I so choose as in 1"-9" or so then bolting it together with nice thick sturdy SS bolts. But also I would drill it so I can just bolt it back to stock length position. So thier it is so let me have it guys input is always welcome from the nudists of the world.
It is just bada** to be on the Z at the strip no one else has one out thier and then to have extensions but to have them absolutely totally custom that would be way way trick...... ![]()

I like the idea. I wanted to do the same thing except I was thinking of making it a fixed length and welding the peices solid.

The main concern would be strength. Also if for some reason you ever wanted to go back to stock wheelbase, you would probably have to find another swingarm unless your welding skills are very good. I, personally, would invest in an aftermarket setup, but thats just me. Good luck!

swingarms
Don't do it man it won't last. There are a bunch of differnt grades of aluminun,5086'aircraft aluminum being the strongest. The extention out of aluminum to slip in would have to be to small and would bend.I taught aluminum welding for 10 years.Belive me if there were away I would have done it.I bought mine 6".they are billet aircraft alum.and fit in the swingarm with 2 bolts for 140 U.S. from Rockwall performance out of Texas.Good buy.

Hey man, I say go for it. I bought an extra swing arm off of Ebay for $50 in good shape. I plan on using it for the test mule. I'm going to weld on a set of "bolt-on" extensions and then use 1" thick-wall tubing and make an under-brace. Should be pretty cool once I'm done with it.

Somewhere on this forum are a few pics of an orange Z and extensions. Also, look up webby's bike. He's running a supercharger and extensions(I think). There are a few videos on the web of him at the track - maybe on youtube.

The guy that was putting on extenders craked my brake callipers, then craked his a** draging his gxr 1000.Its super quick 1/4 mile 9.50.He was dragging with a broken wrist now he has road rash and and ankle broken in 3 places, just my luck.I welded the calipers{cast aluim}will test tommorow to see if they will hold.Looks bad extended now and will take off useless back fender to give it some space. Will try to get some pics.Really haven't tried posting pics. Will give it a try later. Greencheezeta good luck, hate to see that thing bend doing 120 mph.
