The motel quoted me something like $79 a night but then asked me if I was a part of a group. I replied, "sort of...it's an informal one." They asked for another person's name in the group that's reserved a room. Reluctant to use the name "Serp", I mentioned "Rob" and then they gave me the same AAA rate they gave you even though I don't have AAA.

Looks like I'm going to miss this by only a week. I'm embarking on a trip this weekend, right through there.

    Sucks :(

Unfortunately I think I'm going to have to bail out. This year there has been so much going on. Taking care of my aunt that has dimensia and my grandparents estate that she never finished with, plus having our house up for sale and wanting to move. Then last weekend my brakes on my truck started smoking and the $400 that cost me to fix was basically what I had scraped up to use for my trip. My wife and I have plans to go to the Grand Canyon next month so its not like I can just work through the inconvenience of having to fix my truck. I am an unhappy camper but I guess I'll survive. I miss the mountains and the beautiful scenery. I'll miss the riding and the hanging out with guys that have become friends over the past 13 years. I think most of all I miss the serenity and the slow pace of mountain life away from the congestion and BS of living between Baltimore, DC, and Annapolis.

Weather could be an issue, I'll have to keep an eye on that.

I just booked a room at the BW. I was shocked, the rate went from $62.99 for Thursday night to $116.99/night for Friday and Saturday. Still worth it :0

I'm going to check the weather on Monday while I'm in Murphy to see if it's worth it. This far out the forecast is iffy.

Sucks Jon, you and Stan are going to be missed. If the weather doesn't look better there is probably going to be a lot of people holding out... :-(

On the topic of weather I've gotten away from weather.com and much prefer intellicast.com The way they show the 10 day forecast is about as user friendly as it gets Intellicast - Maggie Valley Weather Report in North Carolina (28751)

Also their android app opens to THE BEST mobile moving weather map I've ever seen. For even more usefulness on the android map settings go to overlays and turn on windstream. It will show tiny little moving arrows where the wind is blowing (and the storms they carry). No idea if they have an apple version.

There is still a lot of rain in the forecast. Is everybody still willing to take our chances and go for it?
