It is a sentiment that submariners of all navies shared. We had long enjoyed a reputation as nonconformists who hated the monotony of fleet service. We disdained the pomp and circumstance of sideboys, buglers, and holystoned teak quarterdecks. We embraced the hardships of life in a steel tube and the go-it-alone missions that submarines were designed to do. We were a fighting elite, and we knew it.

To dance down the road with the one you love is one of the neatest things in the world.
This ROTR was very educational.
I learnt about "adjustments"and "redneck lunches".

We still did not have a Ninja 650R on the ROTR!
Do those folks think they are too good for us "Z" riders?? We had the ZR-7 well represented. We had 2 Z1000's. And the Z750S was there. Hell, we even had a cruiser ride with us. I guess the Mean Streak is more of a "power cruiser", and Dave literally rode the tires off of that thing!!
So were are the Ninja 650's???![]()
Well, maybe next time....

A few thoughts from ROTR 7.
1. The only time you really need the power a liter bike offers is to catch up with Serp on the straight-aways.
2. When entering a right hand turn too hot and needing to shave off a few mph. Your boot hitting the pavement means you won't be cutting that extra speed off with the rear brake.
3. Wild turkey should be taken in moderation and definitely not in combination with 8-10(perhaps more) beers.
4. Heavy rain still hurts like h3ll above 40mph. I would liken it to a major league pitcher chucking fist fulls of pennies at you.
5. If you expect to get around 5,000 miles out of a tire. Its already at 3,500 miles and you are about to travel 1,500 miles. You may want to replace your tire.
I had a great time though. Pushing my limits a little with Serp, Rob, Kelly, and Craig was amazing. As well as sharpening them a little later saturday with Bert. Doing that friday would have been a slightly better idea, however, I would like to refer you to thoughts 2, 3, and 5. You may notice a pattern of me not thinking ahead.
Glad everyone got home safe. Espectially David. I know all too well worrying about tire life and how your life is directly related is not the best way to end such a great trip.
P.S. - Who is bringing the Wild Turkey next year?![]()

Hey there Tom. I thought you'd like the ZRX. For the record, it is an 1100. The rider is a friend of Rob's, named Ted. He lives in the Asheville, NC area (near Lake Junaluska). He dropped me a business card. I will try to PM you his contact info.
Missed you on this ride friend.Let me know if you should find yourself at VIR for any reason. I'll race down to shake your hand!!
If not that, perhaps at ROTR 7.5 or 8....
