I may add some riding to my ROTR trip
I've been thinking of adding a couple days to my ROTR trip. I've been wanting to ride the Dragon and some of the other roads in the area. What I might do is leave on Sunday afternoon and head south. Monday I would get the rest of the way to the Deals Gap area. Tuesday I could ride the Dragon and some of the other great roads I've read about, then ride up to Hillsville on Wednesday.
This is where you guys with experience in the area can help me out. What roads should I ride, what should I see, and where should I stay?
I wasn't planning on camping, but I could if I had to. I have a tent that packs up fairly small but my sleeping bag is bulky. I'd rather not have to pack the extra stuff.

So what you need is a tour guide.
How about this?
You leave Sunday morning from Hillsville with my riding companion and I. We ride as far as Franklin (about 300 miles) and split a room at the Colonial Inn (dead center to all the good roads) and in 2 days I can take you on 80% of all the good roads in the area then you can return to Hillsville on Wednesday while I motor on the Florida.

I was going to do the extra days before ROTR. Plus, I couldn't keep up with you.

Well we could do the same thing before the ROTR and remember I'll be riding a 250 this year so keeping up won't be a problem plus since I'll be leading, you won't loose me.
The only difference is that I'll be riding up to Hillsville on Thursday otherwise you could ride up with us too.

I'll see how it works out as it gets closer. With you riding the 250 I could keep up on the straights, barring highly illegal speeds. I dont think I could keep up with you in the twisties if you had a flat front tire. as the schedule stands at work I can have May 12 & 13 off, but not the 19 & 20.

OK than in keeping with your first post schedule you’d leave on Sunday afternoon and head south. Monday you’d get the rest of the way to the Deals Gap area, ride teh Gap and set up somewhere. I still recommend the Colonial one 441 in Franklin for about $45 a night and 28 from the Gap to Franklin is a must ride . Tuesday I could ride up and meet you in the morning for an all day loop of curvy north Georgia roads then you ride up to Hillsville on Wednesday.

That sounds do-able. When it gets closer I'll know for sure.
