    i want to say thanks

    thanks you to all,
when i first started out my season i swore that i would wear as much of my gear as possible.
as time pressed on,i found myself running around without it.
one post of post pics of road rash was a quick wake-up to me.
although i may not gear up as much as i should,i find myself making sure i wear as much as possible when riding.
just to give a little back story, i rarely ever wore any gear.
first accident-cb750,driver uses right hand turn signal and turn's left in front of me. no helmet i hit her driver's side door and go flying over the car to land and skid 10 or more feet, come to a stop bumping my head against the curb.
that one cost me a hernia surgery.
next incident-gpz1100. in my lane going under murray baker bridge, fairly curvy.
i stay in my lane, straight truck moves over to right lane and i advance.
car in right lane decides to turn and truck driver come's sliding over to my side forcing me(hard on the brakes)into the median.
bike hit's pea gravel at median and i find myself lying in oncoming traffic(none coming, thank him)while driver continue's on as if nothing happened.
again no helmet!!! am i dull minded or what???
rode the bike to work and showed the boss my road rash and he wouldn't even give me the day off...
and again after many year's of absence of riding i found myself running around like a street demon(daemon)trying to be impressive.
so all in all i just want to say that you guy's may some day save my body or mind.
so just to sum up,thank you.
please don't send pics!! the first one's were bad enough.
now if only i could convince my cuz(typical harley rider)to at least wear some gear!! he's really not that cool..
    i'm done, i think!!!?

Ya just get used to wearing the stuff, it becomes natural and normal after a while. Then, if your missing something, gloves, lid, boots, you feel the guilt and the Angels scolding you - they worked hard enough pulling us out countless situations up til now and they need a break now and then.

I've seen enough Riders basically walk away from an accident with the gear on - enough convincing for me.

    ditto on what Ron said.

I've worked as a corner marshall at our local track and have seen riders walk away from some real doozies. (Wish I could afford their gear) If you ever get a chance to work a race track you will never ride without your gear again! good of you to bring it up DD

I feel much more confident riding in full gear. It seems to make it more fun.

Move somewhere cold. Then you will HAVE to put gear on. Plus in Canada it's illegal to ride without a helmet, so no decision to be made.

Try not to ride like a fool if possible. Track day perhaps?

Glad you are in good shape.

    Stay that way.

No doubt. I would have likely cracked an elbow or knee on my recent bump without an armored jacket. My crash a couple of years ago would have ground my right arm into hamburger without a jacket. Every now and then, I tool around my neigborhood in tennis shoes and just a T-shirt (not without helmet, though, the mailboxes are brick) and it feels like I'm riding naked.

Gear? Oh yea. I've an aunt who's family has been riding motorcross bikes since for a long long time. As soon as my mom told her I'd bought a motorcycle, she threatened to kick my (insert applicable word here) if I didn't at least wear a helmet. Gloves, jacket, and shoes that at least cover my ankles only seemed the smart thing to do.

..........and those big bugs, June bugs we call'em around here, really, really hurt at 65+ mph.........................

    DD,

I am glad that helmets are compulsory where ever I have lived so far. If not, in my younger days, I might've been stupid enough to choose to ride without it if I could. Sometimes I see how these young boys here in France scoot around on their mopeds etc, with the heltmet slightly on the head(think of it as if they are wearing the helmet as a baseball cap). That means sh!t. If they tumble, that helmet might've not been there at all. They do it like that, just to have one if they get stopped(like a loop-hole of some kind). I see them and know how stupid they are. If only they know what the danger is riding without the helmet securely fitted!?

Like they said here before. Just keep on wearing your gear. It will become natural. And stuff what other people might think when they look funny at you. The other day I left my work, and wondered what the hell is missing 100meters up the road. I then realised that I didnt put my gloves on!? Needless to say that I stopped and put them immediately. Old pal, it is cheaper to get new gloves than a skin craft!

I feel exposed if I don't wear all my gear. I have a system in place so it doesn't take long. I also find that when I wear full gear, I can push it more on the twisties, somethin' in my head most like.
