The Versys 1000 is NOT an adventure bike by any stretch of the imagination.

Now that we got that out of the way, the Versys 1000 is a great motorcycle capable of comfortably riding the twisties and take you across the country with the LT luggage.

It is not going to ride the Transamerica Trail, or take you on the Long Way Round, unless you are built like a linebacker and have skills like Ryan Villopoto.

You will enjoy that slipper clutch, center stand to aid in chain maintenance, comfortable, but still sporty enough riding position.

    Congrats.
Skill is what keeps you on two wheels.

Situational awareness combined with skill is what keeps you out of harm's way.

ATGATT combined with Situational Awareness and Skill means you might live to ride another day when that deer runs into your bike or that drunk blows through that stop sign.

An adventure bike is capable of going where street bikes dare not travel.

I would call the Versys 1000 a Street Adventure Touring bike, or a Faux Adventure Touring bike. It has the riding position similar to the Adventure bikes, but without the off road capability.

The new Honda Crosstourer is considerered and adventure touring bike, and it at least has laced wheels and 19 inch up front, but it is quite heavy and most journalists say OK for smooth dirt roads.

The BMW GS1200 is an Adventure Touring bike. The BMW S1000XR is a Street Adventure Touring bike.

Adventure bikes are dual sports with hard luggage capability. KTMs, Triumph Tiger 800s, KLR 650, BMW GS 650 - 800s.

Not saying the Versys 1000 isn't a great bike, but would definitely stick to paved roads on it.
