OK - I'm interested. Why? The only mod I'm aware of is rubber strips on the wheels for traction.

OH MAN!! When I was a Kid, my Dad took mine apart, upgraded the motors, modded the frame to fit 2 12v Car batteries and put strips of rubber on the tires. the switch he put on it had three modes. SLOW FAST and GO BABY GO! I don't know exactly what he did to make it so fast, he is an electrician by trade, so he knows his stuff.

Thanks for bringing back that memory PT.

My daughter has a small one person bug and we have a large field in the back of our house and at times it gets stuck and she gets mad. LOL I know she would enjoy for it to go a little faster. (since she loves when I hit the gas in the car and when the light turns green she yells GO GO GO! To funny) I have been thinking about taking every thing off it and getting to some new motors, rubber wheels from a push mower, and a do some research on some light weight high power Battery. I am planing on building a metal frame and bolt the bug to it We will see.

if you are looking for a good deep cycle battery (although it's a little on the heavy side) the Optima Deep Cycle Redtop batteries are a pretty good bang for your buck. In HS I did a program called PowerDrive, where we built an electric vehicle to race in a series. those were the best option we had found for that application. 2 of those in there will run in for a few hours

I wonder if you could adjust the brushes forward on the standard motors, would give them a little more "oomph"...but IDK if they adjust at all from the factory.

If you know how rewind the motor it will pull more amperage but will be a lot faster.
