Is Scorpion slip-on REALLY too loud?

After listening to countless youtube files, I have decided that the Scorpion slip-on is my favorite. However, there are some who comment saying that it is too loud. They all say the videos dont do any of the slip-ons justice, so it is hard to tell which one to purchase without hearing them in person. Which is impossible. So............

Anyone have any real world, real ears knowledge of the Scorpion and how it compares to the Arrow, Yoshi, and Two brothers, or even Competition Werks???

    Thanks

The only two I've heard "side by side" are the Competition Werkes (mine) with a baffle and the Leo Vince. Even with the baffle the CW is louder. Looking back at it, I wish I had gotten a quieter slip-on. "LOUD AS HELL" is fine if you're just posing in a parking lot, or short trips around town trying to annoy everyone. But longer trips and day to day riding the sound level becomes tiresome.
Videos are pretty useless when judging volume and sound quality due to the fact that everyone is using a different camera, even using the same camera will give you different sound between different exhausts depending on HOW it records the sound. My camera makes the stock exhaust sound LOUDER than the CW, I think it "clips" the crack out when it records, it that makes sense.

I believe a little common sense will give you more of an idea how loud a slip-on will be. If the muffler looks like a "stinger" off a Briggs and Stratton 5 hp go-cart with poorly engineered hardware, it's probably gonna be LOUD, if it's a bigger can (with more packing) it's probably gonna muffle more.

I agree with you in that the loud will eventually wear thin. My main goal is a good sounding exhaust. I like the deep throaty sounding one. With dishing out the money, I am debating on whether or not to go ahead and purchase matching headers for maximum HP increase, but not sure if it is worth the hp gain if I have to remap, power commander, dyno, ect.... the bike to do all that.

    So many choices....

i have a scorpion slip on....yes its loud. I wear ear phones and listen to my ipod when commuting...the slip on makes listening to music difficult, but cagers move over when i'm lane splitting. i like it over the stock exhaust.

Like dude said YT vids are useless...

I tried my Yoshi w/no baffle, I couldn't concentrate. It was dangerous. W/the baffle in, its def louder + better than stock, but quiet enough that I'm not distracted. It still backfires and pops like a mofo too, which I personally like a lot (why people don't is beyond my understanding)

But yea any exhaust w/no baffle is gonna be too much for the street IMO. These bikes w/a baffled exhaust and desnorkeled air box are plenty loud for me.

I've got about 7,000 miles on my Scorpion slip-on. I went back and forth between a Scorpion and a TB slip-on. The Scorpion is loud, with a deep note to it. For me, it's not bad at all while listening to music. I've got the titanium "Red Power" slip-on, sounds fantastic at high rpm's. Looks good too.

Here is my two cents... I ran into a chick at a bike show back in Seattle who had a Scorpion exhaust on her bike and it was noticeably louder than stock but still quieter than my Comp Werkes... And the other day I came across an ER6N with a Yoshi while I was in my cage. It was damn loud and I asked my girlfriend how it compared to my bike, her response... "Yours is way louder..." With that said though, there are times that I wish mine was a tad more quiet but I love the looks out it and the sound it just amazing to me...

All I can say is when I had my 650 with the jardine slip on with out the DB killer At idle my bike was loud as heck. But Ive heard a few slip ons in person on the 650's. The only difference I noticed when comparing the sound of different slip-ons in person is the idling sound. Some very in pitch that is it. But when the rpms are screaming out there, when the bikes were moving they all sounded the same to me. I noticed when the packing material starts burning out over time the sound becomes louder and more of a tin can sounding, if that means anything. I think new fresh packed slip-ons sound the best and have the deepest tone.
