Exhaust Mod - NOT gutted, and not Thrush or Cherrybomb

Ok, so I wanted something on the cheap for the rest of the season. Toyed with the idea of gutting the factory muffler, but it kinda looks like a pita. I still might once I get this one done just for fun. Anyways, saw a few people used thrush or cherrybomb mufflers in place of the stock exhaust with pretty good results, so I went to the local autoparts store to pick up a Thrush Turbo II muffler, and while I was waiting for the guy to go get it, I saw a DC Sports "can" style muffler on the shelf. It's almost exactly the same length and has a 2" inlet. So I thought hell, I'll grab em both and try em. The DC Sports is the first one I tried and I definitely think this is the one I'm gonna go with!!

It will sit back a little more once it's actually welded up and mounted. But WOW! The sounds is soooo much better than the Thrush. Doesnt have that tinnie sound at high revs or decel like the thrush seemed to have. It sounds almost EXACTLY like my buddies two bros, but louder. Probably similar as with the power-tip removed. It's almost too loud for trying it out at 9pm.

And the weight savings is def worth it!

    STOCK:

    DC Muffler:

I didnt take a pic, but it's even over a pound lighter than the Thrush! Only thing I dont love is the huge tip. I might make/buy a silencer of some sort to go in there. Quiet it down just a hair and make it look more like a bike muffler. Don't know yet.

    What do you guys think?

Ha ha, apparently everyone hates it and is too nice to speak up. Gonna finish mocking it up today and take it for a real ride and see what I think. I think it looks better than the thrush does on these things.

It will be loud as hell.harley guys will ask you to join them. You would need a 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 od pipe going thru with holes in it glass pack style. That would tone it down some close to a jardine.

    More pics.

    Video:

It sounds a little raspy on decel in the vid, it must be my phones mic, doesnt seem to do that sound normally.

I'm working on an insert to go into the end that will have a smaller outlet and silencer on it. It should make it look more like a motorcycle pipe.

I like the look. Very plain and simple... which is what I like about the DanMoto and don't like about most for our bikes. Also, it's really short, which is something I prefer on our bikes.
Sound wise... I never judge anything over a recording and played back over random speakers. If I like it deep, I turn up the bass; if not, I turn it down. To me, it says nothing about actual sound.

Is the pipe straight through? What is there for sound deadening?

It's a straight through design like most for our bikes. Which I think eliminates some of the raspiness that the Thrush or cherrybomb has since it has chambers. Sound deadening is done like most straight through designs, its just perforated pipe with some sort of fiberglass or steel wool type packing around the center pipe.

It sounds very deep. So far the only thing I dont like is the popping I get. Not so much on decel, but that area on the throttle between accelerating, and decel, that sort of "dead" zone thats almost needed to maintan a steady, slow speed. It pops a LOT at that part of the throttle. But it appears that's an issue with almost every aftermarket exhaust for our bikes. I'll try the pair valve mod to try and help and when I do get a real aftermarket exhaust I will probably get a tuner of some sort to stop it.

honestly I like the look of it just wandering how you mounted it to the rear bracket, what just weld on a tab an bolt it on ,seems most likley thing to do....but it does look pretty kool, just wished I could find out what type exhaust BRM is running on thier race bike ,I tried to inlarge the pic of that #64 red bike but could not tell what it was and it is a pipe that I have never seen before, does anyone know what they are running,I"ve tried to call them acoulpe times and left messages and have not had any response back from them, that seems strange to me but maybe thier really bussie and cannot return my call's for help....

Yeah its just a welded on bracket that's bolted through the factory mounting hole.

Ha ha, ok, came across this by accident. Looks like I'm not as "out there" as I thought with this idea.

Seems Delkevic makes an exhaust that looks nearly identical to mine. And I think mine actually sounds a little better.

Made up a silencer for it. Toned it down a little. Hopefully enough to not get a ticket. lol It makes it look more like a motorcycle exhaust too I think.

I nicked it up a little getting it in. But it's not like it's gonna stay clean long anyways.

Looks kinda "ricey" IMO. Kinda like those fart cans everyone used to stick on Civics. Although I happen to be ok with that look to a point, on certain vehicles. I think it looks ok on your bike.
