my bike has a non usb pc3 installed.
Does the bike need to be turned on or running for the computer to see the pc3?
What type of serial cable does it need?(apparently there are two kinds)
Any usb > serial adapters that is known to work?
thx

the answer to your first questiondepends on what bike you have ....do this...look at the pc as you turn your ignition swith on....you will see the green lights cycle up and down...after the fuel pump is done running, see if the lights are still on...if they are then you should be able to communicate with the pc....if not then starting the bike is necessary...the cable needed has a big usb end on one side (for plugging into your lap top...the other side is the usb plug-in that preceeded the mini usb that is commonly used on all android phones today...mp3s had it....now its been some years since if mapped a bike with a pc3...but i would consider upgrading to a pc3 usb
green lights stay on after the fuel pump primes.
in fact i can turn the throttle and the green light move along with it.
for the serial cable, there seem to be straight through cables and null modem cables. I think the null modem cables have 1 pair of pins that get crossed.
