    Question regarding Chain Tensioner Extenders

Completed this on my bike today but one thing I noticed I'm not sure about. When I removed the rear tensioner cap it was say 1/4 way or so full of oil, the front however was almost dry.....is this normal? Other than that everything went as planned.

When I removed the cap to check the extension, some oil came out when I checked the rear and none came out of the front.

I'm going to them this weekend so I'll know for sure.
Quick question: Did you use high heat red loctite to get it on to the rod?

I'm having trouble finding the high heat version locally.

I did use red loctite but not sure it was needed. I had some so I used it lol
Here is a answer I got in another fourm, makes sense: Front tensioner is angled down and will drain back in the tunnel, rear is just the opposite.

That would explain it. I checked mine this weekend (just ordered the extensions). I only checked the rear, found it about 1/4" in or so so didn't bother with the front. Yes, some oil poured out but since I didn't try the front I couldn't answer your question. Now I know for when I do the job.

blue is a nonpermanent thread locker intended to be used where disassembly occurs. Red is stronger and meant for permanent non-serviced applications. The tensioner is not something you want to come off inside your engine.

there really isn't a problem with the extended cap coming off and going into the engine. If that would happen you have bigger problems than that for sure. There is always lots of pressure on the tensioner.

I wish I was back in NC. It's DC and its expensive, cramped, and too much traffic. Fingers crossed I can do the minimum 2 years and then get out of here. All I need in life is some space, a huge garage, and cold beer. DC only has the cold beer.

Sorry for the delay. I have been in the hospital. I too had oil in the rear cylinder tensioner. Before I did the upgrade, I had them both out a couple of times. Each time it was the rear tensioner that had oil in it. It is a wet system so I do not think it anything to worry about.

The permanent loctite is called for by the factory, and the mech guy over at the gadget pages. If they call for it, I use it. JMHO.
