    black chrome

I was thinking (what was I thinking) the chrome on my ms doesn't look right with my gray paint.
Dupli-color has a product called 'shadow', two can thing with a clear coat. I watched their youtube when they did some wheels, I could not duplicate what they did. I had a really hard time getting things to come out right. If you use it try one piece at a time until you figure things out. (Acetone takes it off if you need to start over again)
I started with my chrome mirrors, but I accidentally reversed the caps on the cans and put another coat of 'dark', so I just painted them black.
On the small parts I did ok. When I tried to do the left outside cover, three times, it looked good from a distance lol, "looks good from my house" then I thought the clutch cover side would probably get to hot for the stuff so that was my excuse to give up, and put it back to chrome.
I would not recommend this product.

The "Dark Smoke Gun Barrel Treatment" would look cool. It would be heat resistant too. But beware, it's hard to work with too. I tried to re-blue an old pistol. Didn't turn out to well.

How about anodizing. Can you do that over chrome?

Check this stuff out. Might give you the look you're going for. It definitely looks different than straight black, a lot more depth. Going over real chrome gives the best effect, trying to use the chrome powders as a base tends to give it more of a greenish hue in certain lights and I wouldn't recommend it. As long as the chrome is in good shape you should be fine unless you have some chinese made aftermarket stuff.

Those rattle can special finishes never turn out that great and they tend to scratch easily from the experiences I've had with them.

And it works on highly polished aluminum as well but you need to clean clean clean any remaining polishing compound off of the part or you'll have bubbling or adhesion issues either right away or reduced longevity.

How do you apply it, same as regular powder coating ?

Chrome shops with actually re-chrome part for you. I love the look of the black (tinted) chrome.

02' Meanie - Gold (sounds pricier)
    - F&S strut covers and bag stay
    - V&H Long Shots w/o baffles
    - Caddman single side
    - Coaster'ed
    - TFI

For the most part. You degrease same as normal but I wouldn't use a prep that has phosphate etching to it as it can show through translucents. Also you'd normally scuff or completely remove chrome by blasting but this goes right over. As long as its high quality chrome there's no issues with bubbling or delamination but you will see that with cheaply made parts. It would definitely be cheaper than custom chrome work thanks to the EPA.
