I don't think you would like the Speed Triple, then. It's a bigger bike, but it shares footpeg placement with the Daytona, really limiting your leg room.
Sounds to me like the FZ1 is the bike for you. And an awesome bike at that. Before I got sucked into the sportbike craze, the Yamaha was the ride I had hoped to move up to.
True, I have bought a lot of gear from a local BMW/Triumph dealer (helmet, boots, mesh jacket) I like the look of the tripple but it isn't a good fit. The FZ1 is the best fit on the market for me.
It has a TON of after market things already out for it. I would kick it up to 140hp at the rear wheel as soon as it was broke in. Already done ALL the research on it. BUT... with twins on the way in June or July it won't be this year unless you guys take up a collection (HINT!!!!) just kidding. (but if ya want to..... :smilewink )

Well, actually Chris, the fund drive is for those who are not only the neediest, but those with the highest number of posts.
Send your checks to Medtreker, POBox 1 Long Island NY. Thanks

They are all good for the money
Hi Guys:
Take it from a guy who has owned an FZ1, ZRX and a Bandit 12 - all these bikes have their pluses whether it be cost, ride, power handling.
Personally I like the Naked Bike class for the ease of working on the bike - Oil Changes etc. And none of these are that easy to work on.
After riding all these and seeing every opinion on the web about wind protection, comfort, horsepower - I really don't believe you can go wrong with any bike in this class.
I liked the looks of the Z1000 and the Orange is rather radical and should get the cops attention - so I bought one - after all it is a toy. I am 5' 11' and 230 lbs. Yes, the bike is small but that motor makes up for it - ever try to sit on a Ducati - can you fit on one?
I am sure at the local bike hang out this summer I will get all sorts of questions - speciallay from those guys who drive their 20 year old bikes and emphasize to me how reliable it has been. These are the same poeple who bought K cars and Ford Tempos.
Sorry to hear some of your didn't like it - all I can tell you it is a good bike and some of the other bikes listed above did things better in some types of riding and this one excels in other types.
When it comes to Japanese Bikes you really are splitting hairs.
Enjoy the Year Gentlemen and ride safely.

Gordo,
Congrats on your new ride - do you have to wait a month or two for delivery? I was at the ATL bike show friday and took a look at this bike. IMHO, it's the best looking naked bike there, the Tuono close, but $3500 USD more! Plus, it may not be as much a stretch to the ground as the FZ-1, SV1000, and the tall Tuono. Plus, the fairly upright position is even agreeable to old coots like m... er, Tom Bozeman.
Really like the touches with the body parts, the side radiator covers (sv1000 could use something here - hint). If I was in the market I'm not sure which color, leaning a little more toward the black (constantly cleaning orange wheels didn't appeal to me). Of course most folks there were looking at the orange one. And the pipes don't look near as big as the pictures would have you believe, plus I like the color on 'em.
Think ya got a nice ride there... don't forget to post some feedback here.

Berto:
I have to aait approximately another month - the Z1000 is in Canada in a warehouse and have yet to be distributed to the dealers. I'm in Toronto and so is the warehouse so it is just a matter of time now.
If you saw the weather up here - it will be 2 to 3 months before I ride it (Salt damage is standard for Toronto). Orange - why not - I am tired of Kawi Green. Black - my FZ1 was black and all you could see were the swirl marks from waxing.
As far as the wheels go - all the Z1000 (ZED 1000) have the polished outer rims which I really like and the coloured (colored) centres so take your pick.
What I like about the bikes were all the neat little features you get for the money like
- digital tail light - which a great deal of peole buy aftermarket.
- Factory Hugger
- Polished rims
- fuel Injection
- I like the exhausts
- The Instruments
- The upright riding position - getting old!!
- The dual headlight - albeit I wished they both worked at the same time other than High Beam.
- The light weight - the FZ1 was a pig and steered like a truck until I modified the suspension and got rid of those god awful Metzler ME4.
- I admit some of the plastic covers over a few things may be a bit chincy but the other bikes in the class have some flaws also. (V-Max and its fake intake system!!)
- It's different and I have already had a few seasons on TL1000 and I feel the V twin experience is over-rated.
However - I thank the Americans for NFL football playoffs when I cannot ride. And then once NFL is over there is HOCKEY.
Berto - Take care of yourself and I will be sure to post some things and it will not be a biased report. If it can take the beating my FZ did I am sure I will be happy.

Don't get me wrong, I still love the Z1000. It's just not a good fit for me or the type of riding I do. If it was I would still be beating the Z1000 war drum loud and clear.
I would love to hear your take on the FZ1 you owned. It looks like it will be my next ride.....someday
