Anyone know about zephyr 1100s? Found out that japan kawasaki still makes them for home market along with w650s, and a single called estrella? So far all I've found is that between 92-97 they imported this model and it had dual spark air cooled in line four, disc brakes. Cool looking retro musclebike. Other similar bikes are the gs(x)?1400 and xjr1300 neither of which is sold in the U.S. as far as I can tell.
I'm refering to the yellow lower bike. The green one is zrx1200. Did this make it to the us between 92-97? I've seen a zephyr used for sale at the motorcycle dealership but it had a mini fairing and looked like a bigger zr-7
I might be mistaken, but I think the U.S. only got this one, in '93.

To the best of my knowledge you can still get the 750 and 550 as well in Japan although i may be wrong, the 1100 used as you say the twin spark engine with a Hydraulic clutch, they are great bikes and i have recently bought a 98 750 for a winter run about to keep Zeddie looking nice, like all older Kwacks until warm they run like a bag of spanners but have pretty much bullet proof engines otherwise and were really the forerunner of the naked muscle bike, go over to zephyr-zone.com

I had the burgundy Zephyr 1100 for about a year, I think it was a 93 model. It was my first bike in the US when I came in 2002.
It was a fun ride, a big eye catcher. People were crazy about it. It bridged the japanese and the chopper world. The Motor very smooth, very soothing torque and power, about 85 horses or so. Brakes ok, but the suspension was bad, especially for NY streets: too harsh for holes, too soft for higher speeds/cornering. Still it could be ridden fast through corners, as you could stabilize the bike on the throttle. Always on the gas. Otherwise wobble-bobble.
A low, big machine. Felt good.
However I had the Bandit before and missed the power and handling and better suspension, and frankly the bandit is a good bike but not a super hero in those categories either. When the Zephyr started to pop out of 2nd gear I sold it to a gentleman in Arizona, who loved the bike and wanted to work on that it - it would have taken me like $800-1500 to fix that.
I bought the bandit1200 again, just to be thrilled by a Speed Triple shortly after.
So, with the ZR1100, be prepared to enter a world of yesterday's specs (handling, power, suspension), but also a world of beauty. It is a good bike.
Too bad they don't sell that retro-styled Z1 here. As has been the case lately, they'd probably sell a good number the first year, and then it would flounder..... Kawi needs to follow up the ZRX with something. ,BK
thats a cool site and a great idea. 30th anniversary edition of the KZ1000. Hopefully their petition works or maybe cycleworld will help them get at least one built as an article.
