    Dog Bones ( Ride Height)

thinking about putting a set of 172mm Dogbones from Motospecialties on the Z, which raises the ride height by 1/2", the thing is i am about to put on a set of 636 forks, to get the correct ride height at the front will i have to put the forks throught the top tree by 1/2" (12.5mm) istead of 1" (24-25mm).

Not sure what you're asking here.

The shorter rear links will raise the back end making the bike turn quicker and inducing instability.

If you still want that effect when you put on whatever forks then you need the headstock at the same height it is now, so you would pull your 636 forks through the same amount as if you hadn't fitted shorter links.

If you pull them through any less you're going to end up on a monster trailie Z1000.

Putting on the rear dogbones will mean that you have the raise the front by less to maintain the stock ride height - that seems to make sense.

I've been looking for a small increase in rear ride height, but the dogbones I have found (ebay, metisse etc) are about are 30-40mm which I think will be too much.

If you pull the 636 forks through by less then you will increase the front ride height from stock. This defeats the object of shorter dogbones cos the whole bike is now higher, not just the rear.

Are we all trying to say the same thing?

the 636 forks have to come through the top tree by 24-25mm, i wanted them to be flush like the originals with the top tree so i was going to put on diffrent size DogBones to do it. just wondered if anyone had any ideas on it.

    Aaaaaaaahhhhhaaaaaaa now I get it.

Yes it might keep the bikes attitude the same as stock but you'll be higher off the ground

Quicker steering, more cornering clearance. Makes a beautiful change in handling.

I put a tail lifter on my z. I loved the way that it handled stock or so I thaught, lifting the tail made for a much quicker turnning bike and it handles great from zipping around the city to 140+ on the highway! I have done this on all my bikes and would recomend it to anyone who likes a little more agressive ride, I stand at about 5.9 and am still able to plant both feet firmly on the ground.
