Sounds fishy to me. It's more likely the bike won't start b/c the overheard garage like is burned out. :P Still, at the right price you could make a little $$ from parts! I'm sure you thought of things like the kick-stand being down, bike in gear, emergency fuel shut-off reset, etc. Heck, I don't even know if the 250s have some of this stuff.

I've yet to go see the bike in person, it's 3 hours away from me. But the price that we had agreed at, I'd be ok with buying it and trying my luck to figure out the problem with it starting or what not. Had planned on going and picking it up on Sunday but this morning they contacted me saying they had been offered a little more money by someone else. I figured it was just a sales tactic to get me to offer over the top of that so I just told them good luck.. they responded back with "I'll let you know if the sale doesn't go through" lol I won't be a dollar more than the price we had originally agreed to.

Don't buy it. Probably not worth what they want. Could turn into a moneypit. I've ridden my 650r stripped down to nothing when I had it apart for painting. No fairings, lights, instrument cluster, or even a seat. Bike ran fine. HeHeHe.

How cheap is "cheap"? Adding up the parts that are broken or missing, in my head, tells me unless the bike is under $500 it's not worth it, excepts for parts, assuming of course that it actually RUNS. I imagine a headlight assembly isn't cheap, not to mention all the body parts, forks, wheel, and whatever else is MIA. If you are just thinking "parts bike" remember, the "parts" people are most often looking for (for some reason) ARE the headlight assembly, body parts, forks, wheel, and whatever else is MIA. Throw in a 6 hour trip and a seller that is playing games already and I'd definitely pass on that one.

You almost called the price out lol you're good. Its missing the left side fairing and headlight, was basically rashed on the left side.

^I've been looking for a builder, for my wife to learn on and I've passed on a couple now after looking at the parts listed they need. Once you start adding them up the figure goes up a lot faster than you'd think. I also figure in an extra 20% for things they DIDN'T tell you about and/or incidentals. If my total is 80% of the price of a comparable not crashed bike, I'll "pull the trigger". I figure me chasing all the parts down and having to put it all together has to be worth something. Unfortunately it seem like some people looking at rebuilders don't do their equations the same way I do and don't mind paying $2000 (total) for a $2000 bike they have to do all the work on.

I hear you and understand. Still might be able to turn a profit. I also don't mind putting the time in to fix it up if I get it.

People that play games like that are likely less than perfectly honest.

What Sarge is saying makes sense in every way. You'd be safe to assume the engine is ruined and the frame is bent -- sounds like you're taking a chance if you don't. A couple of months ago I bought a metric bolt for $2 -- ONE BOLT! If you're still thinking about it, definitely do your parts research.

If I were selling a bike that RUNS, I'd have it RUNNING so that potential buyers could see that it RUNS. That way I'd be able to sell it for more $$$ since a certain number of people will assume if it's NOT running, that it doesn't run, as can be witnessed on this thread.

Yeah, all of your guys advice is being taken in and I appreciate the insight and various views. But as of right now the bike seems that its going to be sold to this other party still.

Good luck whatever happens. I think we'd all just hate to see you take a hit and lose money.

Still no word back so I'm assuming they were truly offered more money but I definitely wasn't going to pay more.

Im a new guy on this site. Can't seem to find the mods page.

I'm trying to get my hands on rear farings to cover or replace the grabs bars on my 2012 ninja 650. I don't know if the bike comes with grab bars in every country, but in OZ they do and I think they're very ugly.

Where and how can I get my hands on these parts?

    Cheers

This. I've started mine up a few times when diagnosing issues with all the fairings off, no gauges, signals, lights. Even having the gas tank sitting on a stool next to the bike on the left side, with the air box hanging off a frame slider on the right side.

I'd walk away from it. 250's are a dime a dozen...
