    Can you waterproof leather?

So i just bought some new leather race boots and teknic chicane leather pants with knee sliders. I'm wondering what you can do to maybe waterproof the leather without ruining the leather or the color if the leather is black. Any suggestions on sprays. Sometimes it's impossible to avoid riding in the rain... as I found out last night coming back from Wisconsin Dells with all the tornado touchdowns. Maybe some of you know of a spray or sealer that will help protect leather from water without ruining the leather or dying it.

I think cows are pretty much water tight, but your jacket will soak up some water. There are a few different products that work well. Try your local leather shop, Wilson's Leather ( http://www.wilsonsleather.com ) or try the Tandy Company ( http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com ) . You should also be able to find something at your local bike shops or Walmart. As for discoloring, you're just gonna have to try a little in a spot that no one will see. If it works, treat it. I've tried the stuff from Wilson's and it works ok but you have to retreat it several times a year

Mink oil will make them waterproof for a few days, but that's about it. Put it on and make sure to leave lots of it in the seams and stitching. I only use it on my boots anymore and just carry a rainsuit. I would avoid any of the synthetic sprays on leather.

You have to keep it heavily oiled for it to be water resistant. I use "snow seal" on leather boots. It is a wax that you apply to leather that has been heated to 150 degrees. At room tempurature it is semi solid and repels water. It will probably affect breathability though.

I carry frogg toggs with me at all times.
