How many of you get your motorcycle inspected each year?? I have been told don't worry about it to you should get it inspected because if you are in an accident your insurance will not cover anything.

Inspections are only required for states that require anual inspections on bikes.
Unless you're talking about just a regular inspection and not a state mandated inspection. If so, you should be doing an inspection before every ride. And a more detailed inspection atleast once every other week.

I was questioning about the anual state required inspection.
I agree you should do your own inspection before riding everytime and do a full over when ever possible.
Im not advocating either way but...mine is 2 years out. I probably should as much as I ride (higher probability of getting pulled over I suppose) but I havent yet. Its much easier to go unnoticed as you have to have your eyeball 2" away from the sticker to see.
Why would you not get your bike inspected?
I don't know about your state, but I've ridden in Va and Tx each have an annual inspection, it takes about 10 minutes and cost about $20 and it keeps you legal...
When motorcyclists blow off traffic laws they justify the anti-motorcycle attitudes out there.

$20!?
In NY its 9. And cops can tell by the color of the sticker on the left fork. I don't know how many people are ticketed for this though...I know of a guy that has been riding a bike for at least 3 years and he doesn't even have his license.

Here in NH, the price is set by the station. I paid $30, but I've seen it as high as $45. It is not legal to ride w/out this. If you get caught, it's a ticket, plus a hike in insurance rates. They can also make you find another means of transportation and tow the vehicle.
No inspections in FL, AL or TN. I have seen roadblock quick inspections by state troopers. Also, if you wreck they can cite you for improper equipment and add to your misery.
I know a couple guys that make great money that didn't change out their tire when they should have and wrecked on wet roads.
I believe it is better to be seen than to be heard. Remember, they give out licenses to deaf people, but not blind people.
Hi Viz and Lights are better than loud pipes.
so in those states that have inspections- does that mean there are fewer bikes on the road with outlaw exhausts?
We have no inspections in Calif, which may be why so many bikes are on the road with illegal exhausts.
Wait a minute here. Isn't Calif. the state where all vehicles have extra emmision equipment? Where youi can't even bring in a vehicle over a certain age? Where if you use certain product they are known to cause cancer in that state?
But, they have no inspections? WTF? That really makes a lot of sense.![]()

In NH, they do not do a smog test on the bikes that I know of. The shop I went into was run by a couple of old guys. They both appeared top be over 75 years old. They asked me to turn on the blinkers, headlight, brake lights, etc. They did not look at the engine or exhaust parts. They said it "was a lot quieter than most of 'em that come in." I presumed they meant the endless numbers of Harleys that run straight pipes around here. Seriously, there is no need to worry about sound volume of pipes in NH. Evidently, no one gives a $hit.
When I lived in MA, they used to put your car on a smog tester and when I left there was talk of having to go up on the dyno every other year, so if you wanted to get away with a non-legal aftermarket exhaust, you'd have to switch it after you got your sticker or know someone who could fudge the test. There are various ways of doing this, obviously... not that I recommend such behavior.

Here in the State of Arizona we have no state vehicle inspection, and Motorcycles are exempt from emissions testing. If you buy a used bike in another state then this is the only time an inspection is required. I do not recall what that fee is.
A person should keep an eye on the condition of their bike, Tiresm chain, fluids. In fact I even flush the Brake fluids at each oil change. Not required that often but it onlt takes a moment!
In NC, there is a 'safety' inspection. They make sure the lights / horn / directionals / etc ... all work. I don't know all the things they check, but there is NO emissions for motorcycles (unlike other vehicles in most counties). We can't renew registration without a valid inspection performed. It's all in their computer, so they know.
