Gas Mileage question.
So hey I got a question for everyone what kind of gas mileage is everyone getting?? Motorcycle Consumer News March 2006 issue said the bike should be getting MPG 68/61.8/65.3 for High/Low/Average (seems optimistic to me)
Ive been averaging about 43mpg but I havent had my first tune up yet is this why??

I've consistently been getting 50-55 (I only have 1,500 miles on it). I don't ride mine too hard though.

titangolfer how many miles do you have on yours? so far the best MPG I have got was 44 and im not riding it hard..is it maybe because I have not got my first tune up yet? because there is a big difference between 44 and 61..

I think the low 40's is the worst I have ever gotten - and that was riding REAL hard. At "normal" speeds I usually average in the low to mid 50's. You mentioned "first tune up" and I'm wondering if you mean the first service. With a new bike you should not need a tune up, but if you're only getting mid 40's then you might.
I would suspect it has more to do with acurate calculation of the fuel mileage though. It's VERY easy to get a bad set of numbers with the size of the tank on the bike as well as the different fuel pump shut offs at the pump.

I have been keeping track as of late just for my own odd nerdiness...52.3MPG on one tank and almost 55 on the other tank. I think that magazine was touch off, but hey, I am not a motorcycle scientist and my bike is black....supposedly the silver gets MPG...from one of the other postings!
Motorcycle riding is like landing a jet on a carrier.....every time out, it's a controled crash, it's just a matter of how you crash it.

@ 175 miles my indicator light comes on. so I assume i could go about 200 miles on a tank of gas. this seems to be consistant.

MPG
I have over 3500 Miles on my bike (Purchased in Late June '06) and I have gone through 3 oil changes now, with running Amsoil synthetic Motorcycle 10w-40 oil now.
Riding around town, keeping it under 5K RPM, I get 53 to 55 MPG.
On long Highway trips, were I average 6.5K RPM (85 to 90 MPH), I get 43-48 MPG.
So it it depends on when you shift and how long you keep it above 5K RPM.
