Reed Valve Block Off Plate INstall

So I did the reed valve block off plate install today...

    http://www.gadgetjq.com/rv_removal.htm

    # 6 says follow the vacuum hose and remove it (1500's only) from the carb/throttle body.. and cap the opening where the hose went into..

I did not have a cap, and I did not feel like removing the tank and trying to get the hose off the throttle body, so instead with the tank tipped, I ran the hose up so it was sticking above the frame under the tank... I took a golf tee, and forced it into the hose It took alot of effort) and then tie wrapped the hose around the tee... I then reinstalled the gas tank, and the hose is no longer visible

I think this provides the same 'blocking' as blocking thye nub at the engine... what do you guys think?

Well if you used the plates then the air aint going into the exhaust anymore. If you didn't remove the actual module under the tank then it'll still try to pump but it just won't go anywhere. I ripped all of it out and put electrical tape on the 2 connectors. The cap on the throttle body was for the carb'd versions. On our FI bikes the plug goes on the back of the air cleaner backing plate. You plug it so unfiltered air doesn't get inside the engine.

Actually the 1500 is different than the 1600 (I think)

There is a small diameter hose (about the same diameter as used on a fish tank air bubble compressor).. that comes off that unit under the tank (which I did remove) and into the throttle body.... Instead of removing that small hose, I left it attached to the throttle body and just plugged the one end.. All the other plumbing is gone

The hose in your picture isn't that the crank case vent hose?? That was not attached to the unit the reed valves were connected to on mine, but goes into the front side of the engine near the bottom left side

It was a long time ago, can't remember. I don't recall plugging anything other than the backing plate but I've got the 1600. The 1500 fiche does look like there's something extra there.

    I have a 1500 also

did you just install an intake, because there is a smaller hose that gets pluged back into the new intake, I also have the larger hose on mine and capped it off, which looks like #6 and the red arrow in the two pics.

I did install the Woody Mod

    http://www.gadgetjq.com/wood_intake.htm

If you look through that, the only hose that goes into the backing plate is the crank case vent hose.. It is smaller diameter than /6 (IIRC).. the Crank Case Vent hose actually runs near the assembly above but is not attached to it.. The Reed Valve near the fan has a clip attached to the top bolt to hold the CC Vent hose in place

The CC Vent Hose attaches near the bottom of the front cylinder

Too funny..I've been chasing down a backfire issue and KNEW I had everything done correctly last year..This year it started backfiring. I had a plastic plug in the tube with the red arrow..Today I pulled everything apart and found the plug had cracked in half, no clue how. I'm sure glad I didn't pull the exhaust off looking for cracks or bad gaskets. Nice Pic BTW

I checked the old thread that I made for the woody Mod.. and I was wrong when I said that top hose was the CCVH it does go to the Reed Valves

    http://www.riderforums.com/showthrea...elp&highlight=

The hose at the bottom (see pic on link) is the CCVH

    help

I know this is an old thread but i can't find and answer on any other, so here is my dilemma ... i decided to remove the reed valves and while removing the plumbing according to the instructions i ran into a hose that says to be removed #6 to be more specific, however that leaves a hole at the crankcase... what to do plug the hole, leave the hose(rather ugly with everything else removed)IMG_2006.jpgIMG_2007.jpg

Baron Custom Accessories Reed Valve Block-Off Plates, Vulcan 1500's/1600, offhand. It mentions the 1500 Mean Streak but not the 1600 specifically.

Good idea rasmith. I have a filter on there BUT, now It hit me that I can shorten that hose
& put the filter on the front of the motor. I'm glad I read this thread...
