Strange how it happened.
It seems that the group of bikes were very visible and definitely loud enough (harleys are loud and have plenty of headlights)... So our assumptions are that being a)visible and b)loud, other motorists would notice us and not hit us.
However, not in this case...
I think I'll start riding on the right side of my lane more often now...could be any number of reasons why this happened. At least they all had helmets on, probably why there wasn't more fatalities, although that could change later I assume. Such a tragedy, I hope everything turns out ok for these guys in the hospital and their families, I'm sure they will never be the same. Stay alert out there everyone!

Sad situation. I ride on the left side of my lane, but when approaching oncoming traffic I move to right side, then back to the left side when it is clear.
You have to be diligent out there. I was running up the interstate yesterday and saw the truck coming onto the highway. I moved over to the left lane and did a quick calculation and saw that they would be merging onto the highway just before I get beside them. I decided to slow down a little and sure enough the truck came all the way into the left lane in front of me. I laid on the horn as they were crossing into my lane even though I was not in any danger, but 'she' just kept coming even though the truck window was open. There was no reason for her to come all the way into the left lane. No slower moving cars in front of her or anything.
Be careful out there folks.
I believe it is better to be seen than to be heard. Remember, they give out licenses to deaf people, but not blind people.
Hi Viz and Lights are better than loud pipes.
This is extremely sad to read. Apparently the cager "does not remember" what happened. Mmm, yah. Follow up article shows the guy is a low life druggy thief with 4 previous suspended license violations.
The very first thing that popped into my mind was..."I bet it was someone doped up on heroine, or something similar", how in the F else can you manage something like this. Texting was the second thing I thought.

I think I am going to follow up on this one. Have to wait 3 weeks before the blood tests come back and they want to go after him with gross neglect homicide.

I agree. Somewhere, I've read a couple of articles on studies done on this and it appears that there is essentially no co-relation between the loudness of a motorcycle and accidents. Hell, people pull out in front of big loud dump trucks and still declare they didn't see them. Where does that leave us ?
