Kawasaki vulcan classic 1500 temp light coming on

PLEASE HELP !!!!!! I have a kawasaki vulcan classic 1500 25k miles one owner maintained and kept up with very well. Recently while riding at random speeds and distances it will backfire and the temp/water light comes on for couple seconds them goes off. I've tried to make it happen deliberately but can't. It did it twice on the way to work within 8 miles so I think it might be getting worse and I don't want to make it a bigger problem than it is. One thing I did notice the rubber seal on breather cover on the right side the side without filter is streched but I feel I got it in there good enough to make a tight seal other than that water level is good in radiator and reservoir. Please if anyone has a clue please respond thanks

    Welcome to riderforums.

Since you maintain the bike, you must have the service manual.

Could be electrical glitch, air leak at intake, air leak at exhaust. Intermittent issues are very difficult to diagnose. Have you recently done anything to the bike?
Skill is what keeps you on two wheels.

Situational awareness combined with skill is what keeps you out of harm's way.

ATGATT combined with Situational Awareness and Skill means you might live to ride another day when that deer runs into your bike or that drunk blows through that stop sign.
