Have you guys noticed that Honda 919's are being discounted? I've seen 'em on sale here in Los Angeles for about $6800.00 or so. I know that is not an OTD price but I figured that bike was not gonna sell too well with an msrp of $8000.00!! I'd love to move up to one of those in a year or so. My 2001 ZR-7S is a good bike but that modern liquid cooled motor and 6 speed tranny + fuel injection is tempting.....I guess I've been forever spoiled by my 98 Honda Accord. Four years of uninterrupted pleasure. Modern technology well placed can be a good thing, especially when it's cheap! I hate to admit it but my old '85 Honda interceptor had a better motor than my present bike. Don't get me wrong, I like the ZR for what it is but I realize now that I like machines with a bit more sophistication.

If you are gonna bash the ZR, do it some place else. :yell: I think my bike is very sophisticated. It sounds to me like you settled on the ZR because it is affordable. That isn't a very smart thing to do (settle). If you aren't happy with it fine, sell it and buy a Hornet (nice bike btw). Just don't talk bad about it, especially here.

Sincerely,:smilewink

c-knight,

Noticed it here too. Also seeing FZ-1's at $7400USD. Also saw a dealer with a new 2001 ZRX1200 for 6000. We maybe seeing a Naked War here in America! With the 2002 ZR-7 being the non-standard color I would expect to see some discounts on these too since these price shenanigans on the other models will hurt it's sales.

Yes, fuel-injection and water cooling is very tempting but alot of other factors still put this bike on top - for me! Funny thing is the only other bikes I had owned were 3 Honda's. Solid, reliable, yet here I am! No real complaints though(or LC gonna beat me up):D

Luvchld I don't believe I was talking BAD about the ZR-7, I was simply stating my personal realization that I have grown to like modern machinery. I've owned many old bikes: a 1977 CB750F, 1982 GPZ 550, a string of CB400 twins, CB650, 85 Interceptor 700, 75 CB750...all of which were purchased well used but I ALWAYS loved them because they were motorcycles. The reality is the ZR's motor was designed BEFORE the motor in my old '85 Interceptor was. The 'ceptor was more modern and technologically superior than the KZ 750 of it's day. Does that make the ZR a bad bike......OF COURSE NOT. For me, the ZR is nice but I now realize I'm ready to move on to something more modern. I've spent many years on the ORIGINAL STANDARD BIKES that bikes like the ZR, FZ-1 , ZRX try to be. Again, this is not a put down to the beloved ZR, it's just a personal epiphany. As far as buying the ZR because it was cheap, that is partially true. I obviously am attracted to standard bikes and it was simply one of the few out there that I liked at the time. My ZR is paid for & I will keep her as a second most likely. Just enjoy your bike and don't be so sensitive.

It's ok C-knight. He gets a little sensitive sometimes. If you really want to get him going, talk about ice skating. Hahahaha!

Easy Em. Knight, just testing your skin buddy. I think that I will be getting the ZX-9 at the end of this season. Ride Safe Man.

Em, you always gotta give it to the newbies to see if they are worth their salt.:smilewink

Hey how far away are you from me (Statesville) anyway? Are you farther than Tom? I'm getting the itch to ride again (waiting on turn signal (just ordered today) and tires).

I checked out the 919 at the dealer when I bought my Magna a few weeks ago. I didn't really like it much. I thought the flat black paint looked like crap and the seating position felt a little odd to me. It felt top-heavy to me when I sat on it.

Hey Emrah,

I'm in the great San Fernando valley, Van Nuys to be exact. You heard from Netlore lately?

I read the on the limit handling of the 919 is a bit iffy...a bit loose in the front end. Without the weight of the 'blades fairing it tends to lift the front wheel while powering on, banked over. Should be interesting.

Oh man, I friggin love that flat black paintjob on the 919. If I could get the 7S in flat black, I totally would, but I'm not really up for a repainting right now.

C-knight,

I've just moved to North Carolina so I'm no longer in the region. :mecry: I haven't talked to Netlore in a while.

I was hot for the 919 because it had the 900RR power plant with fule injection. But then I found out how de-tuned it was and I am not going to buy my next bike only to have to swap out cams to get it where I want it. Jet kit (or remapping) and a new exhaust is fine but not to the extent they toned down the 919 from the 900RR.

Now if they would only bring the ZRX into the 90's (or better) I wouldn't want the FZ1 so bad.

I rode a 919 during this past week when I was choosing my new bike. I thought it was a very nice bike, had a great sound, it was much firmer than the 7S I had, had plenty of go for me especially without a fairing, I ripped up to 90 quick enough to wonder why you might need more. It was a fun bike, but my insurance was almost $1100 a year for it, versus $600 for the CBR I picked up.

Purdue,

You will have to write about how you like the CBR compared to the 7S...Those CBR's are sweet bikes. I'm kinda surprised the CBR was less to insure than the 919...It's amazing how much insurance costs for bikes in the liter class. Enjoy the machine, I would love to hear your comments comparing the 7S and CBR.

I looked around alot,at the dealers,in the bike mags,& on the
net before I bought my ZR-7. Although I liked the 919s,Bandits,
FZ1s,& ZRX1200s they were more motor than I wanted. Partly
because I am not a real experienced rider,insurance reasons,and
cost. I used to like the cruiser bikes,my first bike was a used 1989
Kaw LTD 454. After I sold that I bought my first standard, a1990
yamaha radian,nice bike,but a little small for my 5'11" 240lbs.
One of my friends bought a ZR-7 last year. I guess I didn't
realize it then but looking back now that is what hooked me on
the "naked" bikes. The ZR-7 is exactly what I wanted. Looks
good, fits nice, handles great,& not too much power for my skill
level. Then there's my brothers 1971 BMW 75/5 in my garage
waiting for a restoration...I guess I'll get to that one of these
days.
