If you read the article, sounds like the 2014 Z1K engine is putting out quite a bit more...

Unless you're referring to the 2014 Ninja 1000 vid that was posted on this Z1000 thread.

Atleast headlights seem to be totally new based on the screenshots from the Z-video (not the SX one).
    Some projector type layout.

    looking at the z1 vid.
there doesn't seem to be anything groundbreaking.
im thinking a massaging of the engine for more power.
possibly a new head and cams.

    Yesterday, Kawasaki launched new pics:

Rather than simply being “fastest” or “most powerful,” the new Z1000 concentrates on the overall emotional intensity of the ride, the tactile feeling of physical control and a carefully measured balance between the two extremes of outstanding engine and chassis dynamics that only Kawasaki could have realized.

As Head of Motorcycle Design for Kawasaki, Keishi Fukumoto, notes: “The new Z1000 delivers an increase in overall performance combined with an emotional spirit which will appeal to riders looking for a motorcycle with a strong, discernible character in terms of both looks and riding feel.

“We were delighted to be asked to take a “clean sheet” approach to styling the new Z1000, a naked sportbike with a refined blend of unique Kawasaki spirit and bold ‘Sugomi’ emotion.

“From a styling perspective, we wanted to capture and distill the look and feel of a crouching predator getting ready to pounce and combined them with refined engineering features and performance updates to reinforce the Z1000’s position as the class leading naked sportbike,” concluded Fukumoto.

Also, Z1000SX '14 proyect leader Mamoto Momosaki, said:

"This engine has been developed specially for the Z1000SX, and the engine evolves depending on each model"

(asked about mounting the same engine and electronics on the next Z1000 naked bike)

"Maybe... but it will not receive the same electronics. The Z1000 is a radical naked bike, and we believe the client target wants this bike in a raw manner, without external aids..."

it means.... NO mappings, and NO traction control ???

Bodywork doesn't look like it has changed much, STILL has the same worthless grab handles that you can't tie a frapping thing to! Seat looks a little different and a little flatter. Specs on the new motor, brakes, and traction controls sound great! Think I'll hang on to my 2012 for a while longer!
2012 Green and Black N1K - Yoshimura Slip-on's - Puig windshield - Sargent seats - CRG clutch and brake levers - Pit Bull spools and stand 16 tooth front - Yoshimura fender eliminator - Pappa Shine wax to keep it looking better than new
    LOTS of smiles when riding!

Still happy with my 04 to this day. I saw that in motorcyclist as well. They could dump all the power into it they want but if it ends up looking like the hunchback of Notredam it wont mean a hoot in my opinion.

I think you are talking about a different bike. This is the Z1000, not Ninja 1000. No grab handles, no traction control, completely different seat.

There's kind of "grab handles" on the z1000
mind you they are more "inset grooves" than handles.
