    Left side exhaust heat shield

Just picked up a 2012 N1K green- love the bike but one thing bugs me.

The right side exhaust has nice heat shield covering the pipe leading to the muffler, but the left side has a large gap showing the bare metal pipe leading to the black muffler. I understand that the side stand has to tuck in there, but any ideas on how to cover this up?

I'm not wild about the stock mufflers and will be replacing them when funds allow, but imho this makes the muffler look even worse on the left side. Maybe some hi temp black paint for the pipe (and maybe the cat while I am at it?)

Most of the photos I see in this forum show only the right side. Do any of the slipons (I like the Akra carbon) address this issue?

Common complaint...some guys were talking about fabricating a fix. I have not heard the results. I put yoshi carbons on mine and love them. Good luck with the new bike.

Could be they generate less heat, but I'd have no idea, I haven't had the OEM's one mine at all.
None of the slipons comes with an extra heat shield, that I'm aware of.
    100% sure the Akra's don't.

I painted the entire header and exhaust on my '10 Z1000 black. I helps hide the big can quite a bit, IMO. I think it looks way better than the stock black cans on the '11 and up bikes that leaves the header and under bike can silver/gold.

I also painted the rear brake lever and shift lever. I would like to paint the shift rod, but haven't gotten that far yet.

That is exactly what I used. Do two or three coats. I did one on the header and have some spots that is wearing thin.
