My NINJA 1000... When the second to the last bar goes out, and I have only the bottom bar showing but NOT flashing I have 1 gallon left. When the bottom bar starts flashing I have .7 gallons left. I have confirmed this multiple times.

I've seen Ninjas pull better numbers than Zs even with a (SLIGHTLY) smaller airbox.

That makes sense. I assumed there was a gallon left when the flashing started and ended up running out 1/4 mile from a station. On the opposite side of an interstate bridge of course so pushing was out of the question.

From dry I put over 5 gallons in, almost 5.1 gallons but I was up into the filler neck.

I miss the temp gauge. My 03 had one so why can't this on?

Good to know - that would mean 30km to get to the station. i'm in the process of testing. Had the bike for a year and i've only let it flash once before the testing phase usually fill up at 2 bars left

Fuel indicator and fuel gauge are independent systems. Maybe your floater is stuck anywhere inside the tank. The fuel (reserve) indicator simply recognises dry or wet, which means the fuel level is below when it is dry.

So trust always your fuel indicator, no mechanics inside. ;-)

My last bike simply had a light that came on when I was low on fuel. That was pretty simple and effective!

I agree, I would rather have a temperature gauge and a gear indicator than our silly fuel tank level thing. I dont care if I have a half tank... I only care when I am empty!
