I LOVE MY BIKE!

Hi!

I'm Stew. I've just recently passed my test and am now the proud owner of a ZR7S :righton:

I learned on a Suzuki Gladius which was ok (only bike I had ever ridden at that point)! The ZR is just awesome. It is blue and looks brilliant. I love the way that it doesn't jerk you forward when easing off the throttle like the Suzuki v twin! The acceleration is smooth and even but can go (I don't open it up far yet)when I want it to. There is a little bit more wind noise than the Suzuki as my bike has the top fairing but hey I don't mind it tbh.

My bike cost me about £1300 and my gear cost £700 so I am very keen to keep on using bike as much as possible. I honestly didn't know what type of bike or kit to get as everyone I asked kept recommending different stuff but I read a few posts, looked at a few magazines and hey presto......I bought a ZR7S, Shoei NXR Permutation, Segura leather jacket, Bullit Jeans and armour and have just ordered some gloves. I will make do with a pair of padded leather boots for now as I just cant find anything I like. I want boots that look casual but give as much protection as possible. The casual ones that I liked all seemed to be low cut below the ball of the ankle unfortunately.

I live in Scotland but work about 40mins outside London so biking was mainly a means of commuting in busy traffic to get me to an airport but boy it has become a lot more than that to me. I am hooked already.

The bike has a datatool alarm on it which is ok but I will get this removed soon as I honestly just don't need it and I've heard all sorts of stories about the alarm system.

There seem to be a lot of genuine good members on here so I thought I would register and get to know bikers and their tips from all over the globe. Hopefully there will come a time where I can input to the forum in a positive way!

Anyway, enough about me, I've got lots of riding to do! Catch you around.

Congratulations. Welcome to the obsession.

Welcome! You've made a good all around choice the the zr7s. It's not great at any one thing, but it's good at just about everything!

Feel free to peruse the zr7 section for bike specific stuff & ask questions.

Any pics you'd care to share? I wasn't away there were too many zr7s's in the UK. I thought it was more naked zr7's.

Full luggage rack setup, painted chain guard and a double bubble screen.. You're well on your way! :) Any other mods on the bike?

I love the screen, especially the tint! The luggage rack is handy I suppose but I don't have panniers so I will probably remove them. The bike has a Scottoiler chain lube thingy which I like.

These were already on the bike when I bought it. I had no idea that the screen was a mod. I honestly thought that it was standard lol.

Only thing I want to do apart from remove luggage rack is to try and do something with the wheels as I just don't think they compliment the bike enough. I know you mentioned the powder coating etc but I really would like to explore the possibility of new wheels.

fyi the luggage racks are hard to find anymore. You should have no trouble selling them if so desired.

The stock windscreen looks like this:

What year is your ZR-7S

Hey There Pidgeon, out of curiosity, what year is your ZR-7S???

Here in the states it is easy to identify, as they were only offered in a single color each of the 4 years it was on sale.
I was a very happy owner of a 2002 "BLURPLE" model. The official color is Metallic Blue Violet. But, it quickly was nick-named "BLURPLE" by those who saw it in person.
Actually a very nice color. Although, you could not find any gear or accessories to match it... What is one to do?

I hope you enjoy yours as much a I enjoyed mine. Had it for 13 years and accumulated 59,800 miles on it!!!

Hi Gump,

It's a 2002 buddy. I love it. I hope I have as much fun as you did with yours!!!!!
From your photo that looks to be the same color we had in the states on the 2000 model year ZR-7 (Naked version).
Officially, "Candy Lightning Blue". Very nice color!
I, too, hope you get as much enjoyment from yours as I did from mine. Truly is a most excellent "all around" motorcycle! :alcy:

I really like the way that it will pull no matter what gear I seem to be in. I too love the colour. I aim to get the luggage racks off as soon as my commute to the airport stops. At which point I might toy with the idea of gold wheels but I am still thinking that one over tbh.

I just wish I had not waited until my mid 30's before starting on my biking adventure!!!!:notworthy
