Hey guys, I arrived home today after a ride and noticed my rear tire was low. I already knew it had to have a piece of metal or a nail in it. Sure enough, it had the metal that some vulcanizers use and bend to stab tires. Ofcourse so you will stop and get it repaired by them. Anyway, Im looking for Tires and need help. What shops carry quality tires here, and will ship to CDO? Thanks for any help, my searches have come up short. MOtoworld said they dont have the AVONS anymore, they now sale Nankang and Continental. Thats not good.
You must be one very lucky guy. Pipoy has Pirelli Angel GTs for 2012+ Ninja 650s on stock. If you buy front and rear tires as a set, it will cost php14950.00. Front tire only is php7800.00 and rear tire only is php10800.00. Shipping costs are extra. Call them asap to confirm, reserve, and make shipping arrangements. Pipoy's mobile phone is +63 917 529-5618, and land phone is +632 364-3652 or +632 364-7967. Look for Annie or Erlyn.
kabayan road 3s has less life thean road 2's just lttle better on wet but running road 2's on rain my z i have no problem at all.. thats why road 4's were made away
a lot were dissappointed in alberta with regards to PR3's
pr2's can last more than 10,000km but running hard wont help lol
Thanks for the info, its been a while sense ive see you around the forums. I did not know the information you provided. I wish i could get p4s but thats not going to happen here. Ive emailed Michelin HQ and the distributor there in manila. i have not heard anything yet.

The local Michelin dealer (Tiara Commercial, tiara.net.ph, land phone +632 813-2548) does have Pilot Road (not sure if PR3s) front 120/70 R17 (58W) and rear 180/55 R17 (73W) combo. All you have to do now is PM NapkinLegend and ask about his rear 180 tire mod. It would probably be good to have a big rear end like Kim K.
That is who i sent one of the emails to, i only have smart and you know land line calls eat load like it Lechon. I would be really happy if they have some, if not ill probably go with the angel Gts
I have not researched on the handling characteristics of adding a bigger tire. It would be nice, but i dont want to decrease performance. I think he added a 636 rear set up. His bike is nice.
haha unless you dont corner as much its ok.. going 180 from 160 makes the bike feel sluggish
bigger tyre, more grip, lazy maneuverability wise. skinnier tire, little less grip, more flickable.
and yeah and pilot road 2's if you want longer life
I dont know much about tires, so i absorb any info about them. what do you guys do when you get flats, i know you dont go and buy new tires everytime. You would go broke doing that, i know its not always the vulcanizers setting their little traps. Do you plug your tires? how well do the plugs hold up?
I took the tire to a bigger shop today, one that had machines. I was firm about no damage or scratches, the guy did a pretty good job. I tipped him a 100 peso for a 150 peso job. They put inner patch which should hold up. I did not realize my tire is pretty worn. I compared it to a new one and was thinking its already time for a new tire anyway. Only 5,300km and i need new tires soon? It looks like im going to order the Pirelli Angel Gts from Pipoy in Manila. Thank you Blue for the info.
Wow.... people throw nails in the road to cause flats to make money fixing them.... what a great place eh? It's like the broken window economic theory. Parable of the broken window (yeah, I'm that much of a nerd).
I have often thought about using nails to "seed" the well worn patch in the middle of our local highway where the police hide to shoot radar though.
They usually throw them at night, some guys on motorcycles throw them around lmao!
The pirelli deal sounds great! If you have a bridgestone shop nearby they might have some tires for the 650 but I think they will order it first. IF you get a flat tire look for someone that has pneumatic vulcanizing written, other shops without the machine won't be able to take the thing apart. How is your rear brake no issues?
I think people usually swap around 6k or 8k depending on the tire thread so yeah maybe its time to change.
tires from 170 and above are not meant to be repaired there's that temporary gooey stuff that you can spray in the tire before you reach home and disassemble and buy new tire..
I am having problems with mine there is no rear brake after we put the tire back, not the vulcanizers fault though as he did an excellent job patching the tire. Don't worry about the patch it will hold up for a very long time unless he used the cheapo stuff lol.
I forgot to mention this, when you guys patch the tire did you put it back the rubber and the rim exactly on the same location? The wheel is balance so if you guys didn't mark it you might need to rebalance it if grip feels a bit different.
Normally what i do if i have to pull a tire, ill take some washers about the thickness of the disk. Put them in place of the disk so the caliper wont close. Not that its a big deal, it just makes things easier. Did you bleed your rear brake?
In Arkansas some guys that have a glass/windshield company and were driving around and shooting windows out with BB guns. Funny thing was that they were using previous customers addresses and literally hunting and targeting them. One guy got suspicious and started filming them after he had his windshield shot out three times in two months. Turns out after the news did the story that over a dozen customers that used that company had the same problem. They were arrested, prosecuted, and had their business license revoked by the judge.
In your case, I guess somehow they perceive that it's worth it to risk getting caught, jail time, beat up, and possibly killed over selling a set of tires. Maybe one of those scenarios would serve them right (not death I guess, but man).
They have no fear of anything like that. they are just little small side road shacks.Plus there are so many, it would be hard to prove which di what. They only do a little patch work, and its not even good most of the time. Its not worth killing someone over, but a good A$$ whooping would be ok.
I'm in San Francisco, Agusan Gel Sur, Mindanao. I've been living here almost 8 yrs now. I just completed a nice bike trip. Started here & went to Cagayan De Oro then up into the mountains of Bukidnon Province. We literally climbed up for several hrs, it was a awesome ride. Then down into Davao city, then back up to home. I've owned many motorcycles in my life from FJ1200 Yamahoppers up to my last bike in the states which was a 1600 Vulcan, but I've got to say this is the best all around bike I've ever owned!!
dang that was a heck of a trip. Get wet? We could have road a ways with you, i live in CDO.
On another note, When me and my wife where doing a daily Talakag ride. I saw a R6 Yellow and Honda RR 954 Red. Stopped and talked with them for a bit, we road back to CDO as a group.
Are there any race course instructors here, maybe Manila? I want to push my riding further, i cant do that with just practicing at my own limits. I want to learn the proper way for pushing harder, i need someone who understand the tech but also can help with instinct of riding.
Yesterday, we went to 11 different shops, and not one single shop could make simple bends in pipe. Unreal, How can you even call yourself a machine or exhaust shop. I saw a hydraulic bender in weld industries store, they wanted 19,000 for it. im so tempted in getting it and making stands myself. Then noone even understands what a triple tree stand is. I even showed them a detailed pic. :rant
When I bring something to a machine shop and they ask me what's it for -- I just tell them that it's for my coffee/espresso maker. They'll just do it for a pack of cigarettes.
Did you go to the shop yourself? Even if the stuff you bring is really for a coffee/espresso maker, they would gladly charge foreigners (or foreigner looking) say 19,000 pesos. May I suggest you ask a local (perhaps your wife's brother) to have your thingy fabricated for you.
I guess in my rant i worded everything wrong, sorry for that. The 19,000 was for me purchasing a hydraulic pipe bender myself. The problem is they dont have a bender that can bend pipe. its a very simple design. However i have no doubt i could find someone in Manila, its the only city that has equipment or fabricators it seems. Maybe one in Cebu
Do you know of one individual that has a triple here? im seriously thinking about marketing these things for the bigger bike groups
I was trying to find an local ordinance laws for CDO. It looks as though they go by the ear test. The exhaust cannot be excessive loud, which would fall into the hands of the policeman. That would probably be the hand out time. every check point Ive went through ive been very nice to the guys, they usually apologize for inconvenience and i move on. Sometimes i slow down to stop then they just wave me through. It gets confusing, but i have not had any real issues, but i also am completely legal.
Just fyi and from my personal experience tje are apologizing cause you are a foreigner and associate that with money/power. Same with the buke, they see it and think its someone with money/ power. Thats hiw life is over there brother.
Bosing, I have advance info for you. According to Kawasaki KRIB (Libis Manila), there are several brand new zx10r 30th anniversary units being shipped to Manila this January 2015. They are allocating the zx10r units on a first come first served basis. Kawaski KRIB usually gets the lion's share of allocations. The price is php777k (usd17k+). The sales manager (Jesse) will be at their office around 2-3pm this afternoon. You may contact him directly at +63 2 687-4334 to negotiate the price, make deposit, and reserve a unit.
With regards to registration, I suggest you purchase the bike here in Kawasaki Krib then drive the unit back to CDO. The registration process is just under a month (I think). Have the registration papers faxed/emailed to you, so you have something to show our cop friends. Come back here in Manila to get the original registration papers when your license plate become available -- which should take another month or two. While here, let's have beer (just kidding). Registration process is faster here in Manila. The license plate is another story.
slamat kaau for this information, I would be really surprised if they actually sale that many. But maybe its been a good year for everyone hehe. The info you provided kinda makes me think it will be a limited amount coming. which sucks. that means ill have to rush to make arrangements. My dealer also said January.
would you happen to know a cell number for them would you. Dang land lines eat load fast.
Salamat po sa iyo = Thanks to you "Pure tagalog" "po" used as sign of respect
Salamat Kaau/kaayu= Thank you very much "bisaya mix with tagalog"
Lamat kaau = Thank you very much "Pure bisaya" "sa" from salamat is removed
Its not uncommon for some to mix the languages as parents might use different languages at home thus the child learns and speaks different languages as well.
BTT: My plate number and registration also took around 6 months! Had to photocopy the conduction and permit to travel, change the dates lmao until the dealer finally gave them to me. That zx10r at 700k feels affordable and yet feels expensive hehe!
LOL so true. I lived in the Philippines from 96-01. I had friends who were by blood Visayan. They lived and grew up in Angeles City which is predominantly Kapampangans. Everyone in that family spoke Kapampangan but when they spoke to each other they spoke Visayan or Tagalog.
Slightly OT, any of you guys play Airsoft? Was just thinking about it cause when I lived there it was a pretty big sport and one guy that used to play (AGL member) would ride all the way from Manila to Angeles city on his bike to play some of our bigger games.
Ive heard of a few playing, but i have not perused it at all.
ON another note, me two guys went for a ride yesterday, one guy is new and young. I almost got into a fight with him trying to explain how traffic is and he is not even close to understanding the bike yet. He needs to take it slow, and learn the bike, learn the right way to ride. I was nice about it but irritated. we went on a few other rides, and he like man did you see me take those curves. Me and my wife would just look at each other at the time. She could smoke him if she wanted.
so we are taking it easy and he is being a normal show off. then i noticed no one was behind me, which happens, so i stopped and waited. But nothing, i already knew someone wrecked. I rolled backed and saw his bike scattered with the engine out of the frame. I saw him on the ground with a crowd. I was like thank god he is moving, I went to asses the damage. Yeah his freaking femur was sticking out of his leg. I strapped it as fast as i could, put in a truck and went to the hospital.
after 6 hours they finally decided to put the bone back in. Now im not a Doctor, but i know infection in a bone is very very serious. On top of that, i had to help put it back. UGH wiht nothing for pain for this guy. I felt so bad for him, i did everything i could to help. I even had to buy his bandages, medicine, anything he needed. crazy
Sorry to hear about your friend/acquaintance. So easily could have been avoided. That in my opinion is squid activity, and if I was in your shoes I would never ride with that person again. Could probably still be friends but I cant really trust people who do not care about themselves to try and minimize any possible harm to my group.
Back to the accident, I would very much like to learn from this. I realize you werent there but when the time is right and you start gathering information on it, I would like to know any and all details.
High side? Low Side? Did he get scared, brake hard mid corner and run wide? How fast was he going to have knocked that engine out of the frame lol?! Road conditions? I wont even ask his riding level cause of how you mentioned he was acting. Any gear? I am sure I have more questions but I do like reading about crashes and what possible went wrong.
