I just became the new owner of a 2001 Kawasaki ZRX1200 a few hours ago. The price was just too tempting, $6,999 and $7,400 OTD. It is black and I did have a tough time choosing over the Green one. Tom
Tom!!!!!
Great googly-woogly there brother!! You were a mighty Preacher of the Faithful on the ZR-7 family! Is this a schism? Did Twyla promise you power and glory on this forum round-up? Do you mean all these things you've told us about the ZR-7 aren't true? You feeling guilty yet?
Whoa! I like the black one better. Seriously, congrats on the new ride! How did this happen?
It happened one day about 3 weeks ago when I was working out of town not too far from home. I skipped lunch to visit 3 motorcycle dealerships (all on the same highway). First was Honda, next was Yamaha where I sat on and admired the FZ-1 and R6, etc. and then strolled into the Kawasaki shop and there were 3 leftover ZRX1200's (not ZXR as I said above). They were priced at $6999. I left and was thinking, man I'd love to have one of those, but then forgot about until day before yesterday and called back. They had 2 left, one green and one black. I had promised to keep the ZR for 3 years, but what can I say? I still love my ZR and I plan on sticking around on this forum (cause it's so much fun). But I can't keep both of them, so the ZR will be for sale soon. :mecry: and at the same time!? Tom
Yeah buddy!! WOO HOO!!! I'm so happy for you! So, what do ya think??? Of course, I know you already know that the green one is faster, but if you ever come and ride with us, I'll go slow so you can keep up! hahahhaha...
This is the very reason that I can't just wander around a motorcycle shop. Bikes just jump at me and I have to take them home. I hate it when that happens!
Damn it, the local Kawasaki dealer has the ZRX for $6,800... I better not sit on it..might just stick!
Yep, that's what happened to me Philip, and it nagged at me for 3 whole weeks! And I just caved in.
Thanks Twyla, I know that Kawasaki green is faster (just as the BLUE ZR7 is faster), but I'll try and keep up with you on the green machine. Just wished that Texas was not so far away from the Tarheel state of NC. Tom
Yes, and :mecry: at the same time. Congrats on the new ride,
one of my friends traded his blue one on a black one too. Sorry to
see another ZR going though. I'm gld you're going to stick around.
JonF
P.S. Watch that throttle, power wheelies are very easy on that machine! (Not that I am implying you are an old fart or anything.
Have you checked your reaction time yet... )
  Thanks Jon!! I won't even dare tell what my test times were on Trip's test. Real world I do OK for an Old Fart! I'll keep you posted on the Rexer's power as I get aquainted with it. I suspect it is what I'm after, although wheelies are not what I want. But, lifting a front wheel from 2nd or 3rd just a little, should get my attention. :smilewink
Don't you just hate when you see a bike you want, and you can't pass it up. Congrats on the new ride though, the ZRX1200 seems like an awesome bike. Too bad my insurance on something like that is too high for me to step up to it. I'm looking at new bikes again this week, so hopefully on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week I'll have a new bike to break in, probably a red/black or silver/red CBR600, but I really want a gold/black ZX-9R.
So for you Rexxers, what do you think of the online resources dedicated to the ZRX?? I'm not opposed to expanding our content here to cover the Rex too, since one of our long-term goals is to have a broader community of "standard" bikes. Would it be worthwhile to look at, or are the existing ZRX communities already pretty good??
The existing ZRX board is a great resource, but they simply aren't as nice as everyone over here. I feel like we have a little "family" of sorts, and I'm afraid of losing that. Even though I'm a ZRX rider, I still like the ZR7 mentality. I'd prefer just to keep things as they are and Tom and I will continue to reign with iron fists! (as long as I'm allowed) haha...(but my iron fist is green) hehe
Purdue...your insurance must be screwy! They'd give you a lower premium on a sport bike than on a standard?? That's crazy! I know cc wise it's bigger, but the GSXr is a MUCH bigger risk to insurance companies. (honestly, not saying that you are, but around here, if you ride a GSXR, you are a major squid). The only guys here who buy those bikes are the ones who ride around in shorts, muscle shirts, no helmet, and sandals. Talk to another insurance agency man....I know that my ZRX is lower than my ZX6 was in the cost of the insurance. I know it's a cool looking bike, but man, once you feel the power of the ZRX, there's no turning back!! Of course, if you'd rather keep the ZR7, that's an awesome bike as well!!
I think my insurance has a lot to do with me being 20 years old. Plus having very comprehensive coverage with a $100 deductible. They just go straight off of CCs also. A 600 cc bike is roughly $600 a year, a 750 is $750 a year, and a litre class is $1100 a year for coverage. I'm tempted to see what going up to a $500 deductible would do to the insurance rates. One reason I was looking at standards was lower insurance rates, but when I found out an R1 cost the same as an FZ1, I decided I might as well go the sportbike route.
I dont want to rain on Toms parade here but I do have a reply to
Jarels question about expanding the forum to other bikes. I'll
post it in "Community feedback".
Dammit Tom, now I'm going to HAVE to make time to make the trek out towards you just to beg a ride on your bike. Congrats dude.
The Kawi dealer here has a ZRX-1100 with about 9,000 miles for just around $5000. Very tempted... I finally sat on this bike (and the 1200) and I really like this thing. It just feels "right". Like a natural step from the ZR-7. Plus, I like the adjustable suspension.
Holy crap, Tom, I sure didn't see this coming. The last I heard of you thinking about another bike was when you and I were talking about EX250's and EX500's. Talk about a leap in the opposite direction.
Dammit, with everybody jumping on big new bikes right and left like this, I have got to get on the ball here and get that 955i! I hate unexpected financial set-backs!!!!
Anyway, like everyone else said, keep us posted with your progress on the bike.
PS-- Oh, yeah, I'm missing my ZR-7 terribly. How much do you want for your's?
Brought home a brand new ZZR1200 today. Then I woke up from my hallucinations brought on by the stain I was using on my
decks. Oh well it was a nice thought, maybe someday.
Triple, your post about missing your ZR almost brought a tear to
my eye :mecry:
Jon, that was funny. Now tell me what brand of deck stain you were using so I don't have visions of a ZZR12 myself!! and yes Trip's post damn near made me cry too! I'm depressed anyway because it was cold and raining all day and the pretty new black ZRX just sat there in the garage.
So how many coats of wax do you have on it? Have you fitted and
refitted it untill it's absolutely perfect? Did you stand there staring
blankly at it for hours trying to find something you haven't
scrutinized yet? Did you do this :mecry: every time you looked
out the window?
Or maybe it was this... :yell: :yell:
Oh yeah, have you ordered all the back issues of magazines with
ZRX road tests yet?
JonF
As far as the stain goes...
I cannot disclose that information for fear of being sued by the
manufacturer.

Congrats on your new motorcycle. What made you do it? I'm always thinking what would be my next bike, and how much fun a new ride might be. Then I go for a ride in the twisties and realize I have a great bike and don't need anything faster.
Today I was talking to a guy who has a 2000 Hayabusa and he was looking to purchasea SV-650 or SV-650S. He said that he hates the way the busa handles and how his friends blow him away in the corners. He even low-sided trying to keep up.
