Hey, let's face it, we all own ZRX's or would love to own a ZRX.

The ZRX is all about the one part of the motorcycling spectrum that we are all interested in. For those of us who have been around for longer than others, we remember the 60's. This is a time when the Universal Japanese Motorcycle was born. The 1969 Honda CB-750 was the first to come along, followed very quickly by similar models from other manufacturers. About the only difference between the Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha was the name on the side of the bike. They all had 4 cylinders, all had 5 speeds, and were so similar, it was eerie.

The ZRX takes us back to that time. THE BIKE gives us that look, but with modern day power and technology. That is why we all like it.

There are other bikes out there that are trying to break into this niche market, and in some cases have created another niche in this niche. But if you look at what most manufacturers are doing, they are all bringing out new models in the 1000 cc naked class!

Kawasaki bought out the Z1000.

Suzuki brought out the SV-1000 and SV-1000S.

Yamaha has the FZ-1.

Honda has the 919.

Triumph has the Speed Triple.

All of these bikes are really great and they will all benefit our sport. Why? Let's be honest, if something is going to get any better, it must be involved in a competitive marketplace. And that is exactly what is happening. The Naked Bike niche market is getting very, very competitive.

What does all this have to do with the ZRX? I think it means that the ZRX is in a class all unto it's own. It has more torque than any of the other similar bikes. With the exception of the Suzuki Bandit, it is the only bike that has 1200 cc's of displacement, but it is liquid cooled unlike the Bandit.

The most costly thing in the life of a motorcycle is the development costs associated with a new model. We had an update recently, so I expect the ZRX to be built by Kawasaki for a long time. Just look at it's little brother the ZR-7S. It has been around for a long time. Also the Concours stays with us each model year. As long as the bike is selling, Kawasaki will keep it. The profit on each ZRX they sell must be good as they keep bringing it back.

So, keep bringing on the competition, it is very healthy!
